This is an original chromolithographed plate from the monumental Dictionnaire Iconographique des Orchidées by Cogniaux and Goossens. The complete set, published between 1896 and 1907, contained 826 plates most measuring approximately 18 x 14 cm.
As only 250 sets were printed this makes these prints one of the rarest finds in orchid chromolithographed plates.
"This work is singularly valuable to horticulturalists because it focuses on those showy species that are best suited to cultivation and crossing. For this reason botanist Cogniaux felt it to be an important undertaking, even though it proved a slow and complex task. The Dictionnaire was illustrated by chromolithographs made from watercolors by A. Goossens, the principal Belgian botanical artist at the time..." (excerpt from The Orchid Observed, 1982) Angraecum pl. 4., published November 1898. Condition: Good, please note this is a double-sized plate, hence the fold in the middle
